Cynthia Tom is a multi-media visual artist and community activist. Surrealism is her platform to ruminate over creative and social justice concepts combining them together with fresh perspectives, posing questions to the viewers of her work. She creates dynamic art works that are driven by her passion for healing for women and community healing.
My art work is meant to inspire women to own their power and others to experience women out of their traditional context. I believe artists have the power to educate deeply and the responsibility to create profound systems change, impacting the call for social justice, like nothing else.
With an intense passion, Cynthia works pro bono for Asian American Women Artists Association, as the board president, arts exhibition curator, PR, development and programs director. Her participation has inspired her life’s work entitled “A Place Of Her Own”. A formal arts based healing project, asks women to answer the question, “If you had a place of your own, what would it be?” Focused on transformation informed care for women, this project invites deep sharing of stories, healing and the building of new communities, while initiating great shifts in a woman’s confidence and focus. Cynthia hopes to grow participation internationally.
